The PIG Tool: How to Create and Organize Your Very Own Products

Update: I was notified by a representative who owned the name PIGLT and was asked to modify my post/document.  Sorry for the confusion.

Recently, while finishing up the hunting season of 2014, I was in the woods contemplating where my business would be heading in 2015.

An Overflow of Ideas

It was pitch black, and the sound of the overflowing creek below me was making it hard to stay awake.  Fortunately, my mind was busy conjuring up ideas for where to take my business in the coming year.

As I’ve stated before in a previous article, I want to focus more on my writing in 2015, having been hard at work for two years on my guitar course Bluegrass Guitar Essentials, which I finally completed on December 29, 2014.  After solidifying my writing goals into my schedule such as…

  • Working hard to finally complete my first NaNoWriMo novel
  • Writing content for this blog
  • Creating several smaller products (mainly ebooks) instead of taking on another MASSIVE project
  • Writing in my journal and “The Writer’s Lab” book by Sexton Burke
  • Reading and studying “How to Write” books
  • Utilizing Scrivener for all the aforementioned writing projects

…I was amazed to find that more ideas for Bluegrass guitar were coming to mind.  Actually, I shouldn’t have been surprised since Bluegrass runs through my veins, and I don’t see myself ever burning out on playing guitar.

Aside: Avoiding Burnout

Looking back, I think realizing that I was finally done with such a huge project like BGE, taking a little time off to begin my new goals, and looking forward to smaller writing projects was just the break I needed to get me fired up again about creating even more guitar “mini” courses.

I also learned that creating several, smaller products serves to help avoid major burnout and keep me excited about all the fresh ideas that await in the coming year.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled Blog post…

An Overflow of Ideas, Part 2

In all the chaos ideas that came to me while I was sitting there, oblivious to the waking woods around me, I began to slightly panic and wonder, “How am I going to keep up with all these ideas?”

Having adopted the Getting Things Done mentality in the summer of 2014, I knew the power of writing things down and getting thoughts out of your head onto paper for peace of mind and easier organization.  But how was I going to write my ideas down in the middle of the woods, where paper was the last thing on my mind when I set out to hunt on that cold December morning?

Then another idea came.  A splendid, amazing idea!  Why not design a tool to help me create and organize future projects and products?

That’s when I had the idea for the PIG Tool.

I also learned that creating several, smaller products serves to help avoid major burnout and keep me excited about all the fresh ideas that await in the coming year.

The PIG: Product Idea Generator Tool

Introducing the PIG (yes, just like the animal).  The Product Idea Generation Tool.

The above document is the result of all the planning I did in my mind while trying to stay focused on the last hunting day of the year.  I can’t help it; my mind just works that way.  Whenever I get something in my head, I’m focused and inspired to see it in real life, and thus do all I can to make it happen…even if it means tuning out what’s around me.

Regardless, the tool you see above is what I’ll be using myself whenever I get new ideas for great products.  It’s hard to keep all those thoughts in your head otherwise; just by looking at the document, you can see that for yourself.

Whatever your profession, the PIG Tool is just one more great way to make sure you stay accountable to yourself, motivated to keep going, and achieve your dreams and goals no matter what.
