The Emergent Task Planner

It's goal setting time again! Join me as I share with you one of the best tools I've discovered for increasing my productivity: The Emergent Task Plannerâ„¢!

This blog post was originally adapted and expanded from my Now page.

December is normally when I reflect on the remainder of the current year and focus on what I want out of next year. As you know from reading either this blog or my SMART FOCUS books, I love writing my goals in planners, on my SMART and FOCUS Goals sheets, or just about any scrap of paper I can get my hands on.

That being said, I've been on the hunt for productivity planners and planner sheets like crazy for the past couple weeks. I'm close to the end of my current Passion Planner, and while I believe it's still one of the best planners out there, I feel a bit constricted that I'm stuck with a pre-defined template which isn't flexible. In other words, everything's set already and I can't tweak anything. This is to be expected with just about any planner, though. Usually, you have to conform to whatever its layout is.

As a result of my research, I've stumbled upon several other resources which, granted, also have their own templates but at least they look different. And maybe that's the whole point, really: something different. One of the best planning tools I've found so far is something called the Emergent Task Plannerâ„¢ from "Investigative Designer" Dave Seah.

The Emergent Task Plannerâ„¢

In addition to the Emergent Task Plannerâ„¢, Dave has tons of great productivity tools available on his website, and I've really enjoyed learning about his productive and creative mindsets. For example, he works in 15 minute intervals so tasks don't seem so overwhelming. Believe it or not, you can accomplish a lot in just 15 minutes!

Some of my other favorite productivity tools Dave offers are as follows:

So far, the Emergent Task Planner (ETP for short) seems to be working great as a to-do list. I've begun to feel more productive with each newly-accomplished task. For now, until I decide I want to for sure get the actual ETP notebook, I'm printing out the PDF sheets, (two sheets per page) and taping them to my planner, or just keeping the full-size ones on my desk.

There are loads more awesome productivity tools at Dave's site, so head on over there and check them out before it's too late to plan your year and take control of your time!
